I just came back from the Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival

It has been a while since I have posted, so I wanted to let you know…

  1. I’m still alive
  2. I miss you and think of you often
  3. I’m still doing comedy and have some super exciting things to share :)

Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival
I just got back from performing in The Great White North with my team National Scandal at the Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival. We’re officially international! It was so much fun as we got to meet sketch writers and performers from around the world and perform for sold out audiences. Funny story, there was a four year old sitting in the front row of one of our shows, which we were all a little nervous about based on some of our material, but then she laughed while someone was getting pretend-murdered, which made everyone in the audience and backstage laugh. So kudos for stealing the spotlight, kid.

While we were at the festival, we got to do a workshop with Bruce McCulloch from Kids in the Hall! In addition to being one of my comedy idols, he was also maybe the nicest person I’ve ever met and I’ve met Maria Menounos (who is also very nice in case that wasn’t clear).

Now you might be thinking, “Wow I’d love to see Jen perform with the now internationally acclaimed sketch comedy team National Scandal. When/how can I do that?” Well we have a show in NYC this Saturday night at 7:00pm at The People’s Improv Theater! That’s right 7:00pm making it the perfect time to grab an early dinner with some friends and then catch the show before dancing the night away.

This week I start teaching Intro to Sketch Comedy Writing at The People’s Improv Theater as well, which is kind of mind blowing for me that three years into this adventure I am teaching one of the first classes I took. So excited for this opportunity to get to work with other comedy writers in New York.

Would love to see you or hear from you soon,

Feb '14 Update - My Comedy TV Debut

Comedy TV Debut!

I just appeared on Gotham Live with WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley. Mick was kind enough to ask me to come perform a bit we’ve been doing on the road together for the live TV Show. My comedy TV debut was just like I had always imagined: as a half-naked man. I will try to get a clip from the show for my website for those that missed it.

iTunes Featured Podcast Interview

I was also just interviewed for The Marcus Monroe Show, an iTunes Featured podcast that focuses on comedians, variety acts and other performers. I had so much fun chatting with my friend and juggler extraordinaire about writing, performing and transferring colleges six times. If some people have a face for radio, I have a voice for silent movies, but you should still check it out anyway. Listen here.

Sketch Show Tuesday!

I’m really excited about the work my sketch team National Scandal has been doing lately and Tuesday we will be debuting my favorite sketch we’ve ever written. It’s also a huge show for us because our theater’s new artistic director (read as our new boss) will be seeing us for the first time. Please come laugh at us as social proof that we are funny and should continue performing together. National Scandal will also be returning to StageFest at the Landmark Loew’s Theatre in Jersey City next month. We had a wonderful time last year at this three day festival of theatre, music and dance in the gorgeous historic theatre.

I have a lot of other fun things in the works that I look forward to sharing soon. I hope everyone is having a happy and healthy 2014.

Happy Holidays! (End of the year news)

This holiday season I am thankful for my wonderful friends and family who have continued to inspire and support me. I am also so thankful for all of the amazing things I have gotten to do this year including:

  • going on a national stand up tour opening for legend Mick Foley
  • performing throughout the tri-state area with my sketch comedy team National Scandal
  • doing a ton of amazing shows with my improv teams Dam Science and Florence
  • my first character bits and online videos

The best part of 2013 was getting to perform for so many friends and family for the first time, so for everyone that came out to see me THANK YOU! The year is almost over, but I still have a few things coming up that I'd love to share with you.

Sketch Comedy Showcase

This Saturday (12/7) I will be performing in a sketch comedy showcase. It's been fun to get out of my comfort zone by performing with this new and amazing group of performers. I'll also be playing some pretty big characters which has been a new and fun experience as well. Shows are at 3:00pm and 7:30pm at The Producer's Club in NYC. Ticket info below.

Late Night Talk Show Sidekick

I'm making return as the Ed McMahon/Andy Richter-like sidekick for the late night talk show style show In the Weeds with Petey Z. This show was incredibly fun last time with some amazing guests. If you get a chance I would highly recommend checking out this show. More info below.

Sketch Comedy with National Scandal

There are still two more chances to see my sketch team National Scandal this year! See below.
